A 4 year old's excuses

Per Janessa's request (since we talk on the phone all the time and she hears all my stories), I'm going to document all the excuses that I hear from Kaylin on a daily basis.

When I ask her to pick up her toys...
"I can't do it myself"
"I'm tired of doing this"
"I'm just watching a little show"
"You can do it"

The last one is my favorite. Here's how the conversation goes,
Me: Kaylin, could you please pick up your toys.
K: I'm just tired of doing that
Me: Well, I'm not going to do it for you. Come pick up your toys.
K: No, you can do it.
Me: Do I play with your toys?
K: Yah
Me: No, you play with your toys. So, who do you think should clean them up?
K: You.

Putting away her laundry
Me: Kaylin come put away your clothes.
K: I'm just watching a little show or I don't want to
Me: Kaylin, you need to come and put your clothes away.
K: No (throws a crying fit)
Me: Do it now.
K: (Reluctantly does it after several urgings and attempts) Next time momma, you can do it 'cos I'm tired of doing it.

When told to come to eat...
"I can't walk"
"My legs aren't working"
"My legs are out of gas. I need more gas for my leggies"
"My arm is hurting"
"I can't do it myself"
"Can you hold me?"

My personal favorite is the "my legs are out of gas excuse" which has now been her #1 choice of excuses to use. She will literally lay on the floor and cry that her legs are not working and that she needs a treat (ie. gas) to revive them. Sometimes, I help her off the floor to "make her walk" but usually she just drags her legs and says that they are REALLY not working. I should start telling her that we'll have to take her to the doctor to get lots of shots to get her legs working. Maybe she'd start walking on her own.

More excuses...
"I can't wipe myself"
"I'm out of energy"
"I just need something na neat to feel better"
"I'm just too tired of talking"
(when asked if she wants to talk to grandma)

Despite all these excuses I still love her. Does anyone else have a 4 year old that gives lots of excuses?

Those are too funny. (of course, they are funny to me because I don't have to hear them on a regular basis). I love the one about her legs being out of gas. The things we have to look forward to!

She is too cute. At least you finally get her to do things. I give up way too easily because I don't have much patience and get so frustrated!

Hey, Jordan had a great idea.... when she says that her legs aren't working, or out of gas, etc. or she doesn't feel good so she can't do the job, you should give her "special medicine" like "prune juice," or "V8" or something else that she wouldn't like...as "medicine" and that may cure her of her excuses!! At least the ailment excuses :)
